Block Prints

Silk Screen

Retouche

After years of working in silkscreen, both for my own images and collaborating with other artists to create fine art silkscreens of their work, I now enjoy the simpler and more direct process of carving and printing small-format block prints. The challenges are completely different from the layered color work of the paintings and oil pastels. This is about carving and texture, and creating feeling with just a few gestures and only one or two colors. I may have several block prints in process, while also working on drawings and a couple of paintings. I’ll do a few steps, and then come back to it later, when I’m interested in a different mood or work style from painting. With retouche, (re-touched) I use an image I have already printed, either with silkscreen, or more recently a digital photo printed onto art paper, then draw or paint other layers on top.
